Tamanu oil is one of our all time favorite oils for skin health due to its unique chemistry that supports skin repair and microbiome health.
Tamanu trees originated in tropical Southeast Asia and still grow there naturally. Our oil is grown and pressed on the small island chain of Vanuatu. The supplier works directly with about 1500 native people to help them market their local crops to a global audience. Their endeavors help fight extreme poverty, and give us this incredible oil.
Quality virgin Tamanu oil has a robust greenish color and a strong nutty aroma. The consistency is viscous due to the high amount of saturated fats. The thickness helps coat and protect skin irritations during healing, but also contributes much more.
Tamanu is uniquely rich in neoflavonoid coumarins like callophylolide, inophyllums, calanolides, and tamanolides plus other bio-active compounds like xanthones and friedelin. These compounds are only present in high amounts in virgin oils as refining lowers their concentration.
Tamanu is known to have excellent antioxidant capabilities along with chemistry that supports a healthy skin microbiome. The oil has a calming property for inflamed skin provides comfort and ease during healing.
Tamanu is excellent to use on skin that is recovering from injury such as scrapes, burns, eczema flares, and acne breakouts. It will condition and protect the area of broken skin. We consider Tamanu to be an indispensible part of a natural first aid kit due to its benefits.
Poor quality Tamanu oil may be black in color. The fruit kernels do not exude oil when first harvested and must be aged for the oil to manifest. Some processors will try to rush this process by roasting the kernels, which damages the nutritional quality of the oil produces a soot color in the final product. A good grower/processor will patiently wait for the kernels to age naturally and release their oil when they are fully ready.
No preservatives or other ingredients are added.
The expiration date of your bottle of oil will be marked on the bottle. Our oils are stored under refrigeration until being packed for sale.
Pumps for the bulk sizes of oil can be purchased separately.
Directions
Dispense a few drops and massage into skin. May be blended with other oil based ingredients of your choosing for DIY skincare. DO NOT eat Tamanu oil. It is inedible.
Caution: People with nut allergies can experience reactions to Tamanu oil. We recommend a small patch test if you are unsure.
Store at room temperature or below and out of direct sunlight.
