Until now every Blissoma skin and bodycare recipe has been formulated entirely by Julie, the Blissoma Founder. We don't purchase "base" recipes to customize. We do the hard work to come up with something original so that you know that when you buy a Blissoma product it's truly something different.
But now a new chapter of our story is starting.... That's because the Violets Are Blue Magnesium Deodorants are becoming part of Blissoma!
How Violets Are Blue and Blissoma Started Working Together
Our story begins during the days when green beauty was flourishing. The green community in the beauty industry was friendly, innovative, and people really had their hearts in their work.
Cynthia Besteman and Julie easily became friends over sharing similar business challenges.
Cynthia started Violets Are Blue in 2015 after a breast cancer diagnosis. The process of healing from her cancer made her want to provide products that would support health and be super safe. Through healing intentions and hard work she helped thousands of people discover safe, effective skincare and bodycare.
Cynthia especially wanted to ensure that people (particularly breast cancer patients and survivors) had effective deodorant to use. Over a three year period she set about designing the perfect magnesium deodorant recipe.
Batch after batch, she worked on it until it was just right. The magnesium deodorants quickly became a bestseller for her brand.
Life (and the beauty industry) keeps moving and in 2025 Cynthia decided it was time to begin a new chapter in her life. In fall 2025 she announced that Violets Are Blue would be closing.
Julie reached out to congratulate her on an amazing journey in business. During that conversation Cynthia expressed that she was particularly feeling sad about the Magnesium Deodorant since SO much work went into the recipe. Julie took a look at the ingredients, ordered a sample, and quickly decided that she wanted to make the Violets Are Blue Magnesium Deodorant recipe part of Blissoma.
These two passionate founders had probably the easiest, most excited, friendliest sale negotiation ever.
Cynthia was thrilled to have the recipe going to someone that would represent it well. Julie was tickled at the thought of growing the Blissoma brand in such a synergistic way.
Now Julie can no longer say that she formulated every recipe for Blissoma. But that's ok, because Cynthia's deodorant is truly special!
Magnesium Deodorants That Are Effective, Natural, and Safe
Blissoma already has a fantastic range of natural stick deodorants and spray deodorants that provide strong odor protction. The Violets Are Blue deodorants are a wonderful expansion to our options because they use a different active ingredient.
The Violets Are Blue Deodorants use magnesium as their primary odor protection ingredient. No baking soda! They have a firm consistency that applies in a thin layer that absorbs quickly into skin. It's also fun that we pour them upside down!
Natural Magnesium, Tapioca, and Plant Oils for a Healthy Way to Prevent Odor
The Violets Are Blue deodorants come in 3 options - Scent Free, Eucalyptus, and Lemongrass/Tea Tree.
The ingredients are simple and sustainable: Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Magnesium Hydroxide, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Oil*, Tapioca Starch*, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (shea) Butter*, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (carnauba) Wax, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Tocopherol (sunflower based Vitamin E)

The scented versions contain essential oils of Eucalyptus or Lemongrass and Tea Tree. Super simple.
Making A Brand Transition Eco Conscious
For now we're going to be using the remaining Violets Are Blue packaging so that it doesn't go to the landfill. It was the most eco-friendly choice, and the Eucalyptus and Lemongrass versions are still in Post Consumer plastic. Since the Unscented tubes were out of stock already we're using temporary tubes until we make a packaging transition.
Eventually we'll get tubes that show the Blissoma name. For now you'll see the VAB look as part of the Blissoma Deodorant category.
We pour deodorants in small batches to ensure quality. Our team is paid a living wage and you can feel good knowing that caring hands made your products.
For now we're also matching the VAB pricing, which was $26. We want this to be a smooth transition for all the VAB customers who depended on this product.
