The skin makes squalene as part of sebum to condition and protect skin. Squalane is the stabilized form of squalene, making it nearly bio-identical. The skin accepts this oil as if it were its own oils, helping to normalize barrier function, reduce water loss through the skin, and restore suppleness and elasticity. With a stronger barrier future reactions are greatly reduced, enabling a return to heathy, calm skin.

Squalane does not oxidize or get sticky like squalene, so it won't cause acne breakouts.
While squalane in the past came from shark livers and olives this squalane is made through a special fermentation process using sugarcane as the starting material. The killing of sharks is unethical and threatens natural ecosystems, and olive crops are needed for food, particularly as climate change is stressing olive growing regions. The use of sugarcane biomass as a starting material ensures a steady supply of squalane without threatening food supplies or the wellbeing of ocean environments.
This particular squalane is GMO free, USDA certified Bio-Based, and EcoCert approved.
