Description
Litsea Cubeba or May Chang - origin China, fruitLitsea cubeba offers a bright, shiny citrus aroma that beats out the more commonly known Lemongrass and Lemon essential oils in our book. The dominant compound in the oil is citral (up to 85%) and it bursts into the nose like olfactory sunbeams.
Litsea cubeba is a small, tropical tree with aromatic leaves and tiny, peppercorn shaped fruits, from which the essential oil is distilled. The herb is used in traditional Chinese medicine to help menstrual complaints, digestive discomfort, muscular aches, and motion sickness. The essential oil can be used similarly and is a fantastic topical oil for skin use as it offers the brilliant, fresh, fruity aroma of citrus without the potential of phototoxicity. As well, if you enjoy the aroma of Lemon Verbena this oil is a much more affordable alternative.
Use Litsea cubeba for blending anytime a lemony note is needed. This oil is delightful for cleaning house, as well, as it has deodorizing properties. Drip a little in your soapy mop water to make your whole house smell amazing. The affordable price means you don't have to feel too precious about it either.
Litsea is non-toxic and non-irritant. Sensitization can be possible with prolonged use at high concentrations, or in sensitive individuals. Please dilute properly to avoid this issue.
Blending: This oil is considered a top note, and hits the nose quickly, then evaporating away. It blends well with Mint oils (especially Spearmint), Bergamot, Grapefruit and other citrus oils, Palmarosa, Rose Otto, Neroli, Jasmine, Frankincense, Vetiver, Lavender, Rosemary, Basil, Juniper, Cypress and many other oils.
Aromatherapy uses: nervous tension, high blood pressure, stress, immune support (via cleansing air and surfaces), topical uses for oily skin and acne
